My parents gave us a new toy for our 13th wedding anniversary yesterday – a crockpot!
Thank you 🙂 .
Now, here comes the question (no, not the ‘will you marry me?’ question – we’ve already done that bit) …
The question now is …
Does anyone have a favourite slow cooker recipe they could share …? Any suggestions …?
Okay – that was two questions.
But I’d love to know what sorts of tasty dishes you cook up in one of these things …?
And just to say too – Happy Anniversary, dear O.

/ July 18, 2012Our family favourite is known as ‘lamb pie’ because it is based on the recipe for a pie filling, but it has got to be a decade since I put this inside pastry, and I usually make it with beef, ‘cos that’s cheaper. But it is still ‘lamb pie’.
1 large onion
1 large leek
2 sticks celery
1 large carrot
all trimmed and chopped in fairly chunky bits (e.g., onion in eighths), packed into the bottom of the crock. Topped with
750g diced lamb/beef/whatever, then covered with
400g can tomatoes
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup BBQ sauce
1/2 cup beef stock
2 cloves garlic, crushed
I usually bring it on with one hour (or so) at high to get the produce up to temperature, then drop it to low for 8 hours or what ever. Microwave 1 cup of (frozen) peas and mix this through in the final 5 minutes or so. Serve with mash, or, however takes your fancy.

/ July 18, 2012Ooo, it sounds delicious, Jane – exactly what I was hoping for. Thank you 🙂 . And I love the idea of calling a beef stew, ‘lamb pie’! Inspired!

/ July 18, 2012I got a slow cooker for Christmas from my mother. I don’t know how I coped with out it! I have a dedicated Slow Cooker category on my blog if you want to check it out. There are recipes for pot roasts, stews, slow roasted lamb, pulled pork and more.
PS Congratulations on 13 years of marriage!

/ July 19, 2012Hehe – my Mum was the one behind our slow cooker, too! It must be a Mum thing. Thanks for the link to your blog – your slow cooker recipes are very tempting and I’m looking forward to getting going. Your big batch chicken casserole recipe is right up our street, especially 🙂 .

/ July 21, 2012Can’t give you any recipes I’m afraid as I have never had one of these pots but I’d like to add my congratulations on your anniversary and say what a lovely wedding picture that is of the two of you.
I was only looking at the pictures of our meeting at Dart’s Farm earlier on today, what a lovely event that was!
